Episode # 434 Prepping lessons we can learn from football

Listening to athletic coaches over the years we have heard how young people learn lessons in football that will help them throughout life.

There is a lot of football season yet to come, and the question today is, "What lessons can we learn from football that help us in prepping?

After doing some research, there seems that there are a lot of similarities.
That's what we are talking about today, "Prepping lessons we can learn from football."

Prepping lessons we can learn from football

Need to Have Goals and Strategies
The lesson of goal-setting and strategizing is a crucial lesson.
Setting clear objectives and developing a game plan can help us navigate challenges and work towards success in various endeavors.
Coach's game plan determines the strategy
Is it to be a running game, or a passing game?
They usually have the first set of downs scripted

Come to Understand the concept of teamwork

Collaboration - the process of working together or cooperating
To work together, the team has to have common goals
There are different positions and different skills
Everyone has a job to do
Everyone has to do that job
They rely on each other's strengths & abilities

Effective communication
Everyone has to be on the same page
Everyone has to know what the play is going to be

Being dedicated and disciplined

Players go through a rigorous training routine
They stay committed to their roles
And they constantly strive to improve

This mindset can be applied to personal growth and professional development as well.

Perseverance and resilience:
Football matches can be physically and mentally demanding,
requiring players to push through fatigue and setbacks.

Football teaches us resilience.
It's not always smooth sailing, and setbacks are bound to happen.

Players get injured
But they have a plan
Go in that sideline medical tent
There are doctors and trainers on the sideline, and X-ray equipment in the locker room.

That's planning for perseverance and resilience; having a plan and having the things necessary to protect ourselves and our families.

Our next prepping lesson that we can learn from football is
Being adaptable

The last episode, # 432, was the Adaptability Skill Set" so we wont go into great detail here
but football teams often face unexpected or changing situations
Injuries, changes in weather conditions, and changes in the opponent's strategy all must be dealt with.

Similarly, in prepping and in life, we need to be adaptable and able to adjust our plans and approaches. We must respond to changing situations

Practicing good time management

In football time is limited,
There is 60 minutes of playing time
When it runs out, the highest score wins

Each minute, even each second, counts
Called "clock management"
There is the 'twenty-five second' clock which must be managed. The offense has twenty five seconds to get a play off or there is a penalty for delay of game
Teams will be seen running time off the game clock if they are ahead, or saving time if they are behind and trying to make a last minute score.

In our daily lives time is limited
How are we going to use it?

Effective time management is the key
Maximizing productivity
"Be productive, not just busy"

Develop a strategy to reach our goals
"Is what I am doing right now moving me toward or away from my goals?"
      Learn to prioritize tasks
      Set deadlines
     Avoid procrastination
These can lead to better outcomes.

Engage in Continuous learning
They analyze their performance, study opponents, and seek ways to improve.
     Embrace a growth mindset
Be open to learning new skills
     Always seek feedback
     Adapt our approaches accordingly
This can lead to personal and professional development.

Attention to detail
Players spend countless hours studying opponents, analyzing game footage, and developing strategies.

Invest time in thorough preparation, paying attention to details.
Attention to detail increases our chances of success

Strong Leadership
Football teams rely on strong leadership both on and off the field
Coaches determine the directions, make the game plan
Team captains guide and motivate their teammates
     Quarterbacks execute the plans

All these skills are transferable to roles in various settings,
so, not only do we learn prepping lessons from football, we learn life lessons as well.

Off-Grid Laundry Hack: Bucket Washing

Materials Needed:
1.    Large bucket or basin
2.    Laundry soap or detergent
3.    Water
4.    Clothesline or a place to hang clothes to dry

Steps:
1.    Fill the Bucket
Fill the large bucket or basin with water.
If you have access to warm water, that's even better, as it can help to loosen dirt and stains more effectively.

2.    Add Detergent

Add an appropriate amount of laundry soap or detergent to the water.
(Be mindful not to use too much, as it can be difficult to rinse out without running water.)

3.    Pre-soak Clothes:
Place your clothes in the soapy water and let them soak for a bit.
(This helps to loosen dirt and stains before you start washing.)

4.    Agitate Clothes
Use your hands to agitate and scrub the clothes in the soapy water.
Pay extra attention to areas with stains or heavy dirt.

5.    Rinse
Empty the soapy water and refill the bucket with clean water for rinsing.
Agitate the clothes again in the clean water to remove soap.

6.    Wring Out Excess Water
After rinsing, wring out excess water from the clothes.

7.    Hang to Dry:
Hang the clothes on a clothesline

Tips:
•    If possible, choose a sunny day to take advantage of natural sunlight for drying, as it also helps to disinfect and freshen up the clothes.
•    For stubborn stains, you can pre-treat them with a bit of soap before starting the washing process.

This is a method that people have used for generations
It’s a bit more hands-on than using a washing machine but it gets the job done with minimal resources.
It's one of those skills we hope we never need, but we need to know how just in case.

As Krista says: “Stuff happens. Stay prepared.”
