Episode # 430 "Spending Too Much Energy, Money, And Time On Overhyped PreppingTopics"
Many of you are, or will be researching, reading forums & blogs, listening to podcasts, and even joining prepping groups on social media.
Relatively new, or inexperienced preppers are often confused by all the information out there on prepping.
Some of it is confusing, and some of it is contradictory, some of it is garbage, and some is just dangerous.
In this episode we are going to talk about spending too much energy, money, and time on overhyped prepping topics.
Many of you are, or will be researching, reading forums & blogs, and even joining prepping groups on social media.
Relatively new, or inexperienced preppers are often confused by all the information out there on prepping.
Some of it is confusing, and some of it is contradictory, some of it is garbage, and some is just dangerous.
Today we are going to talk about Spending too much energy, money, and time on Overhyped Prepping Topics
Disclaimer: These are the opinions of the hosts, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the podcast advertisers, providers, the internet, most conspiracy theorists, or keyboard warriors.
Overhyped Prepping Topics:
Large Scale SHTF Scenarios such as EMP, CME, cyber attacks permanently destroying the electrical grid, nuclear war, and total societal breakdowns
Are these things possible? Sure, but hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms causing power outages are much more likely.
Examples of focusing on the over-hyped events:
Building & stocking a faraday cage, but can't feed your family for two weeks of ice storm?
Storing weapons and large amount of ammo, but you have only ten gallons of water and no way to filter more?
If you are relatively new to prepping, and you are planning for the large scale stuff before your are fully prepared for the smaller stuff, your prepping plan stinks!
Spend too much Time & energy on Conspiracy Theories
The "Tin foil hat" stuff
The Origin of Covid 19
Was it an intentional release or deliberate
Are the vaccines designed to eventually kill
Did the Jab contain a microchip
Does the Five G cell service activate the killer covid vaccine
Is the earth is flat
Is Bigfoot real
Apollo 17 wasnt the last moon mission, Apollo 18 was and the astronauts had a run in with aliens
Bushcrafting for living in the woods
Not many can survive very long term in the wilderness.
The skills are necessary and useful, and practicing is fun, but planning to live in the woods by
bushcrafting likely works out badly.
There would be hundreds, if not thousands of others trying to do the same thing.
The more crowded the woods become, the more dangerous they will become.
If your plan is to live in the woods with what you can carry on your back, some snares, gear you've never used, and a rifle, your plan stinks!
Gear, gadgets, and the "must haves"
Some buy gear because it’s tacticool or because some “expert” says we need to have it. Every piece of gear should fit a need, fix a problem, save us time, or make life easier. We need to carefully select gear based on OUR needs, not someone else’s opinion.
We often see "what do I need in my BOB?” posted in forums and groups.
If your plan is to bug out & you have to ask what you need to carry, your plan stinks!
Bartering supplies
We spend too much time & money on items for bartering.
Alcohol, tobacco, and knives come to mind.
A better way is to have a few things that someone else may need, but that you could use as well. Lighters, candles, manual can openers, and duct tape are such items. These items can be bartered, but can be used for more than bartering, but a better way is to store more food for your family. You could barter food if necessary, and eat it if not.
Gold & Silver for barter
Probably better for post apocalyptic, but not during shtf, as people will need things for daily life, and gold would be hard to trade small values. Silver would be better, but .22 rounds would be even better, possibly becoming a form of currency.
Guns and Ammo in SHTF
Sure, firearms can provide security, but you aren’t going to need 10,000 rounds per weapon, unless you plan to fight off zombies, aliens, AND flying frogs.
Store an amount you reasonably believe you could use.
In a teotwawki event, most will die before they can go through even a thousand rounds
If your plan involves only guns and ammo, your plan stinks!
If you find value in the podcast, would you be willing to give back a little?
You can do that one of two ways (both are greatly appreciated).
