Twelve common characteristics shared by many preppers:

1. Preppers practice self-sufficiency
          We don’t want to be dependent on the government or anyone else to get through a disaster or other SHTF event.

2.  Preppers are proactive in their preparedness approach to emergencies and disasters
         We:
          Make a plan and take steps to be prepared
          Plan for power outages
          Plan for auxiliary heat
 
3. Preppers are Resourceful
            Creative in solving problems
            Make the most of what they have
            Adapt to changing circumstances
         
  4. Preppers are Community-minded
          Many build or become a part of a prepping community
          Build networks
          Most are involved in their local communities
 
5. Preppers focus on Practicality
        Most preppers prepare for things they are MOST likely to face
                Natural disasters
                Power outages
               Job loss
               Medical issues
               Supply chain issues & food shortages
               Rising Inflation
 
6. Preppers practice awareness (or should)
        Situational awareness – When out and about, know what is going on around you
        Situational awareness in general
            Being aware of potential threats and hazards in their environment,       
            Preppers take steps to mitigate the risks
 
   7. Preppers are flexible and adaptable
           Understanding that emergencies and disasters are unpredictable
          and are willing to adapt plans, strategies, and procedures
 
8. Preppers generally practice Frugality
          Searching for ways to save money
          Growing some of their own food
          Buying in bulk at the wholesale clubs
          Buying items on sale
          BOGO
          Social media marketplace/Apps
          Reusing and repurpose items
          Limiting impulse purchases
 
  9. Preppers are always seeking knowledge
           Learning new skills
          Learning new information
 
 10. Preppers practice a preparedness mindset
           More than physical preps
               Includes:
                   Financial preparedness
                  Mental & emotional preparedness
                  Spiritual preparedness
       
  11. Preppers make a risk assessment
         List potential threats in our environment
         Listing the most likely events we will or could face.
          
 12. Many preppers have a Do-It-Yourself mentality
          Doing things rather that having someone else do it    
           Engaging in hobbies that are prepper related
