Episode # 403 "Practicing discipline and goal setting in preparedness and in life"

These tips help with our prepping, but they also help us in every aspect of our lives.

Prepping is not a one-time activity. It’s an ongoing process, and it takes time and patience. It can be learned, and it can become a way of life.

Practicing discipline in preparedness is essential for maintaining a consistent and effective approach.

Here are some tips to help you cultivate discipline and set goals in your preparedness efforts:

As we said before, this works in our prepping, but it really helps in every aspect of our lives.

Set clear goals:
Goals must be:  (SMART) goals
specific
measurable
attainable
relevant
time-bound - set a completion date

Clearly define what you want to achieve
Establish specific targets to work towards
This could include having a certain amount of supplies,
Acquiring new skills
Or completing specific tasks

Break goals into action steps:
Smaller, manageable steps to make them easier to tackle

Create a schedule or routine:
Daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly routines

Allocate dedicated time to focus on different aspects of preparedness
Inventory checks,
Skill-building
Or updating your emergency plan
Consistency in following a routine can help build discipline over time.

Prioritize and stay focused

Identify the most critical areas of your preparedness that requires immediate attention and prioritize them.
Focus on one thing at a time

Identify activities or habits that may distract you from your goals and find ways to minimize or eliminate them.
This could involve setting boundaries with technology (facebook, Twitter, Tic Toc, or youtube). It may be managing your time effectively, or creating a dedicated workspace.

Stay consistent:
Consistency is key.

Make preparedness a habit by incorporating it into your daily life

Consistently:
Practice skills
Review and update your supplies
Stay informed about potential risks and changes in your environment

Practice self-control:
Discipline often involves resisting immediate gratification in favor of long-term benefits.
Practice self-control by
Delaying gratification
Avoiding impulsive decisions
Making conscious choices aligned with your goals

Avoid Procrastination
Not only is it a thief of time, it is the thief of life
Our ability to stop procrastinating and get on with the work can change
                  our lives
Do one small thing to get started.

Be accountable:
To yourself - Set personal deadlines and hold yourself accountable for
               meeting them.
To an accountability partner who can help keep you motivated
               and on track

 Track your progress:
Keep a record of your preparedness activities and milestones achieved.
            It helps you stay motivated
It provides a sense of accomplishment as you see your progress over time.

Celebrate small victories:
Celebrate your achievements along the way.
Our progress can boost our motivation

Stay motivated:
Remind yourself of the importance of preparedness and the potential benefits it can bring during emergencies.
Stay informed about real-life examples where preparedness made a difference, and use those stories as motivation to stay disciplined.

Remember, discipline is a skill that can be developed over time.
By setting goals, creating a routine, staying focused, and holding yourself accountable, you can cultivate discipline in your preparedness.

So, here is the challenge: write out some goals, whether it is a prepping goal or some other area of life.
Set a completion date, and make a plan to reach that goal. Then let us know how it's going.

Stuff happens. Stay prepared.
